Passport uses Smart Card technology to provide personalised routing instructions. Users Simply Tap-to-Go.
Using standards based smart card technology from any of the leading providers Passport can read and write instructions from any smart card presented, it’s not necessary to even issue a Passport branded smart card. In London alone with TfL Oyster Cards Passport offers over 17 million potential opportunities.
The Passport Process
- Users select their destination from a touch screen menu
- Tap their smart card on the smart card reader.
- Your now ready to go.
Throughout the journey users need only tap their cards on a Passport Terminal for up to the minute journey and travel directions. When linked to travel disruption data Passport will automatically calculate an alternate route to ensure that users reach their chosen destination as quickly as possible.

Apart from the ease in which Passport can direct users across transport networks, the system offers a number of other unique benefits.
Users can program the following information to their Smart Cards.
- Get me Home – choose you home station or bus stop. No matter where you enter the transport network Passport will direct you quickly to your destination
- Program an itinerary – invaluable for tourists. Multiple destinations can be stored against a smart card, Passport can help you make the most of your visit by guiding you across the transport network in a logical fashion making sure that you visit your chosen destinations in the shortest journey time possible. For tourists the Get me Home function can be invaluable returning travellers in foreign cities to their hotel or place of residents.
Building and Venue Owners
Passport provides a medium to direct travellers to your venue. Pre programmed venue buttons can be added to the passport destination menu. Passport revolutionises the way we travel, its no longer necessary to know the closest bus stop or station to your chosen venue. Simply select where you want to go and Passport takes care of it.
Venue owners can provide or sponsor smart cards pre-programmed to lead custom to their location.
Promote your green credentials – for every visitor that arrives at your location using the Passport System, we can calculate the total CO2 saving by your customer arriving by public transport.
Passport Eases Congestion
Passport is a networked technology; it is capable of counting the number of journeys and routes delivered to get to specific venues. Passport can be programmed to offer multiple journey plans to the same venue to ease congestion on a given route. This feature is highly attractive for venues where large numbers of visitors arrive and leave at the same time. Examples of this include sporting venues, pop or concert venues and the biggest of them all the 2012 London Olympics. Passport can choose and randomise the number of journey plans to a specific location, sending travellers across all transport mediums, for London and the Olympic Games this could include- Bus, Underground, Overground, Cross Rail, and River Boat.
